Stainless Steel Passivation

Stainless Steel Passivation

Stainless steel passivation is a chemical treatment process used to enhance the corrosion resistance of stainless-steel components. During manufacturing, machining, welding, or handling, contaminants such as free iron can become embedded in the metal surface. Passivation removes these contaminants and restores the material’s natural protective oxide layer.

The process involves thoroughly cleaning the part, immersing it in a specialized acid solution, rinsing, and drying. This treatment creates a clean, uniform surface that improves the durability and performance of the stainless steel.

Passivation is commonly used within the aerospace industry and food stainless steel rods, cylinders, fittings, and precision-machined components where long-term reliability and corrosion protection are critical.
